Step back in time to the Williamsburg of the early 1900s, an era of street
urchins and ragtime, grand ballrooms and blue-collar saloons. If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing your favorite borough as it’s portrayed in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, this is your chance!
Join the ghosts of Williamsburg past for new twists on classic cocktails, sultry and scandalous vaudeville acts, live ragtime, breathtaking ballroom dancing, crackerjack comedy and a secret photo booth to capture you as you would have looked in 1912, a sepia-toned urchin lit by flickering gaslight.
The space is a breathtaking 6,500 sf raw loft featuring period furniture, a taxidermy menagerie and a larger-than-life replica of Brooklyn’s infamous Tree of Heaven, bursting from a luminous subway map embedded in the floor.

WHAT IS THE NYC C.O.R.E. PROJECT?
NYC is a proud participant in a global initiative called the Circle of Regional Effigies (C.O.R.E.) Project, which brings together 23 effigies representing cities around the world to be torched simultaneously at the annual Burning Man festival in the Nevada Desert.
The Tree of Heaven grows from a luminous subway map that appears to be embedded in the Playa floor. This circular representation of the city’s underground transit system anchors participants in an urban environment by day; by night, it glows with the vibrant energy of the city that never sleeps. From the center of the map a tree pushes its way towards the light, as if busting up through a crack in the cement. A captivating mash-up of organic tree-shapes and steel, concrete and chain-link textures, it erupts in thousands of leaves that are custom decorated by the entire New York City area Burning Man community to reflect our brilliant diversity.
Benches, each designed by a different New York City area artist or collective, surround the piece, offering participants an opportunity to relax and reflect on their relationships to NYC, BRC and the growing, changing world around them.
